The policy doesn’t just violate the tenets of shared governance and academic freedom. It also violates the labor-law principle of progressive discipline. Dismissal is a form of discipline, and to leap to it without any other punishment or discipline happening first seems very clearly against the law.

Thank you. When the Academe blog was moved in early 2017 from WordPress servers to an independent server to take advantage of features unavailable on the WordPress server it seems that reblogs from other WordPress accounts did not transfer. At least I think that’s the explanation for this. I agree that this case has continued legal relevance to the profession and remains troubling.
