Yesterday Marty Kich posted a piece, When a University President Becomes a Scold, that focused on the hypocrisy of Oklahoma Wesleyan President Everett Piper’s much-publicized screed against PC students and his widely quoted claim that his institution is “not a ‘safe place,’ but rather, a place to learn,” and that “This is not a day care. This is a university!”
Well, now the Chronicle of Higher Education has posted a story that so thoroughly demolishes that claim and, in the process, skewers the media’s gullibility that it must be read to be appreciated. Entitled, “‘Not a Day Care’? Really?” the piece by University of Tampa Professor David Wheeler notes, among other things, that Piper’s institution actually has a curfew; in other words, no “day care” but lots of, shall we say, night care. But that’s hardly all! I can’t say it any better than Wheeler has, however, so go read the entire piece and ask yourself why such a clown as Piper received the attention he did. And ask whether those media outlets and right-wing websites that celebrated his supposed anti-PC courage will issue clarifications.
