Submissions

If you have an idea for a blog post, please contact us! We welcome a diverse range of perspectives and seek bloggers from all institutional types, regions, and faculty ranks; we particularly encourage contributions from those whose voices are often marginalized within the profession. Although our bloggers are typically AAUP members or national or chapter staff, we may consider publishing a blog post by a nonmember if it is especially relevant to the blog’s core audience of faculty teaching at US colleges and universities.

Our recommended length for blog posts is approximately 250–750 words with 1,000 words as a recommended maximum length.

Editorial Policies
Blog posts should focus on higher education and closely related issues.

Blog posts with official AAUP announcements—including news about new AAUP statements, investigations, amicus briefs, reports of AAUP meetings, and petitions—should be made by AAUP staff or in consultation with staff.

Posts should not focus primarily on specific ongoing disputes involving individuals and their colleges or universities or AAUP entities—including chapters, conferences, or affiliates—unless they address rare cases of national significance and emphasize their wider implications.

Blog posts should not include defamatory statements or raise other significant legal concerns. Promotion or criticism of candidates running for office in local, state, or national AAUP elections is not allowed; neither is misrepresentation of AAUP policy.

While discussion of AAUP chapter and conference activity is welcome, AAUP chapters and conferences should not use the Academe Blog as the primary vehicle for releasing news or making announcements.

All posts should include a byline that indicates the author of the post or the name of the person who posted it. Any posts with anonymous authors or interviews with anonymous individuals should include a note of explanation.

Bloggers are responsible for adhering to these guidelines. Those who do not may have their blog posts removed; repeat violators may have blog access revoked.

Submitting a guest blog post (even if by invitation) does not guarantee its acceptance; the Academe Blog is under no requirement to accept any submission.

Bloggers have the option of deactivating comments on their posts, either at the time of publication or thereafter. Commenting on posts with comments activated automatically closes twenty-eight days after publication.

Academe Blog reserves the right to remove or reject content.

Disclosure of Financial Interests
We require authors to disclose any financial interests that could be perceived as influencing the submission of an article. Such interests include any compensation provided by other organizations in exchange for publication of the article on Academe Blog. Financial interests may be noted at the time of publication.
