On Friday, September 28 the AAUP Foundation and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges Education Institute (FACCC EI) are sponsoring a day-long conference on academic freedom at Berkeley City College in downtown Berkeley, California. UC Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky will deliver the keynote address on “Free Speech on Campus.”
Other speakers include Hank Reichman, Chair of AAUP Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure; Caprice Lawless and Suzanne Hudson of the AAUP Colorado Conference; Julie Bruno, Past-President, Academic Senate for California Community Colleges; Mónica Henestroza, Special Assistant to California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon; Adam Wetsman, President, Faculty Association of California Community Colleges; Jeffrey Michels, President, United Faculty of Contra Costa CCD; and Jennifer Shanoski, President, Peralta Federation of Teachers, AFT 1603.
While aimed at community college faculty members the conference is open to all. The following is the preliminary schedule:
