Privatization is profit-making at the expense of the public good. It should come as no surprise that the Waltons (see my earlier post) and Gates, the two most aggressive and wealthiest entrepreneurs of our era should be behind the privatization of public education, respectively championing charter schools and standardized testing.
What is very slick is that they have championed privatization through their “non-profit” foundations, with the result that they are being praised in many quarters for their charitable impulses while they are, in fact, simply advancing political and social agendas that serve their own personal interests.
Only in America.
