_______________
We invite you to join us for the
Eighth National Gathering of the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education:
Building Common Ground Inside and Outside the Academy
HOSTED BY: California Faculty Association (CFA)
DATES: January 16-18, 2015
LOCATION: Manhattan Beach Marriott, Manhattan Beach, CA (near LAX)
FOCUS: Most organizations dedicated to an equitable society characterized by supportive communities and meaningful opportunities for all face seemingly never-ending assaults on our vision of a just society.
Daily we all experience the challenges of fighting back effectively against forces much more powerful than our individual organizations or the people we represent.
While our organizations focus our daily work on different, seemingly unrelated specific issues, we are united by a common problem: national, state, and local policies on nearly every important issue–from taxation to education to healthcare to immigration–are being shaped to serve the interests of the super-wealthy 1% in this country. The victims of these policies are the people to whom we have committed our work: students, people of color, low-income people, workers and others in the 99%.
None of our organizations alone has the power to win on the issues of those we represent; but, by understanding our common ground and building on it, we can.
Our goal for the next CFHE gathering in Manhattan Beach, California on January 16-18, 2015 is to continue exploring the common ground we in higher education share with other groups.
We will begin the meeting by hearing from groups outside higher education on their views concerning what unites us and what we can do together.
In addition, we will explore the many ways that privatization schemes in higher education are hurting the people we collectively represent or serve.
And, finally, we will strategize about possible actions we can take on together.
We hope you will join us at the Manhattan Beach Marriott on January 16-18, 2015 for these conversations. Our goal is that all of us—from all our different organizations—leave this gathering better prepared to build the alliances we need to be successful in our local efforts.
