The forum, sponsored by the SaveOhioHigherEd coalition of AAUP chapters across several Midwestern states, included six presentations:
Jill Galvin, an English Professor at Ohio State University, made the “Introduction.”
Cathy Wagner, an English professor at Miami University, provided an “Overview.”
Abby Stidham, a student at the University of Cincinnati, spoke on “Undergraduate Issues.”
Angela Glotfelter, a student at Miami University, spoke on “Graduate Student Issues.”
Hope Jennings, an English professor at Wright State University, spoke on “Sudent-Faculty Solidarity.”
And John McNay, a history professor at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash, spoke on “Faculty Issues.”
A complete version of the Powerpoint presentation for the whole forum is available here.
What follows is a small sampling from the 80+ slides:
SOHE is launching a petition to End Misspending in Higher Ed. It is aimed at Ohio higher-ed decision-makers from your school’s president and board of trustees all the way up to Governor DeWine. Sign the petition now.
Then, keep the momentum going. Be part of our Labor Day social media blitz to get signatures on the petition. Follow links here to join SOHE and your local student organization or AAUP chapter and to follow on social media ahead of Labor Day.
And please support student activism! Help Miami grad students by signing the “Save Miami Grads” petition at tinyurl.com/SaveMiamiGrads, and check out BoldlyBankrupt.com, the student-produced site about misspending at the University of Cincinnati.
Watch for SOHE’s next event, Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 4pm: “Shared Governance for the Current Crisis and Beyond: A Primer.” It is aimed especially at academic workers serving on university senates, but is open to all.
Thanks for this post – it will help me focus on these issues in Canada.
