This is a guest post by Rudy Fichtenbaum. He is the president of the AAUP and a professor of economics at Wright State University.
This statement by the University of North Carolina Faculty Assembly on the UNC presidential search process was sent to me as president of the AAUP. It now appears that secret searches for university presidents are beginning to happen all over the place, and the AAUP sees this as a dangerous trend. In fact, Hank Reichman wrote about this very topic a few days ago on this blog. Secret searches clearly violate AAUP principles of shared governance and I am posting this press release to make others aware of this dangerous trend and to encourage organized faculty resistance to this trend.
