Fellowships for Threatened Scholars

BY HENRY REICHMAN

The Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) awards fellowships to academics who are facing threats in their home countries. These fellowships support visiting academic appointments at institutions of higher learning outside the fellows’ home countries, where they may continue their teaching and/or research in safety. The program’s emphasis is on supporting scholars with extensive teaching and research experience who are facing (or recently fled from) direct and immediate threats to their careers and/or livelihoods. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate strong academic scholarship (generally holding a Ph.D. or other highest degree in their field) in addition to a qualifying risk.  Below is a link to the program announcement seeking worthy applicants.  The deadline is February 1.
